Project 1: Flags of the World

In order to gain knowledge about what different flags of the world look like, plus the history and meaning behind the flags, here is Flags of the World as a game.

Goal: Collect the different colors of the flag that you have chosen in the order that they are listed. (for example, if you were collecting colors for the US flag, you would need to collect first red, then white, then blue).

  1.  Put player in the player start box and put the NPCs in their start boxes.
  2. On each turn, player rolls the dice to see how far they can move (with 1 six sided die)

       3.   Players can move only in the four directions (no diagonal movement)

       4.   NPCs- only one moves per turn (need to alternate between which was is moving). NPCs move the same number of spaces as the player but can move in any direction including diagonally.

     5.     You “collect” different colors by landing on them and then taking a card that has that color on it (in order to keep track more easily)

     6.     NPCs cannot move in the rows right next to the start or right next to the finish.

     7.     Goal for NPCs is to “capture” player (land on their square) and thereby prevent them from reaching then end.

     8.     To make it more challenging, there are also added squares (that you can put on top of the board before specific games) that includes items such as “bird” or “sun” or other commonly used symbols on flags. When using these there is another NPC added which can “protect” the symbol.

     9.     Player cannot stay on the same square as NPC or jump over them. They must go around instead.

10.Game can also have multiple players who cannot kill each other (or harm each other in any way) but they compete to complete two different flag options. Whoever makes it to the end first wins.

11.At the end (or beginning) read the description of the flag you are making from the CIA world fact book description. That way there is learning.

Extra challenge:

Instead of being told the colors you are looking for, you must be given a black and white version of the flag with the name of the country and the player must collect colors from memory. If they get to the end and they are incorrect, they lose.

Old drafts included colors in stationary spots on the board. New version relies on colors being placed on the board at random at beginning of game.
