Just Say Yes
Goal: Reach an understanding of a word without ever saying it or conveying it “negatively”
Setup: 2 Players, cards/ word generator. Paper and Pencil
Player 1: Guesser
This player tries to guess the word being conveyed by Player 2. He writes down his guess on a piece of paper. Once it is written down, he/she cannot change it and the second Player checks it to see if it’s correct. Player 1 is hoping to guess the word correctly with minimum amount of hints. The less hints used, the more points received by the pair of players. Player 1 cannot ask questions about what the word is but they can ask for more hints or tell Player2 to stop giving hints. They can contemplate as long as needed to put down their guess.
Player 2: Speaker.
Player 2 chooses a word at random from a deck of cards (can use Pictionary or other word game cards or just an online word generator). The player now tries to convey the word without using the word itself or using negative words. For instance “No” “Not a___” “Opposite of__” and similar terms (or even double negatives) cannot be used. Player 2 says two descriptive sentences (for hard mode, just words) at the beginning of the guessing phase. After these sentences player 2 can only convey single words as hints. As more hints are conveyed, fewer points are received for finally reaching the word.
Player 2 checks Player 1’s guess once they have written it down. If it is not the correct answer (even in spelling), Player 2 will continue to give word hints, they will not say anything else. Under no circumstances will Player 2 say “No” while checking (no negatives!), and can only say “Yes” when it’s the correct answer.
Players switch roles after each correct word guessed.
