Grief

Premise:

This is the ultimate pissing contest.  Race to collect the purple cubes before your opponent - if you don't end up constantly blocking each other.

Materials:

  • Nine purple 1-centimeter cubes
  • Two humanoid figures of different colors
  • Twenty-eight black 1-centimeter cubes
  • Three small red Icehouse pieces (pyramids)
  • Three small orange Icehouse pieces (pyramids)

Rules:

  1. The objective is to collect as many purple cubes as possible.  When all the purple cubes are collected, the player with the greater number wins.
  2. Players move like rooks in chess, except in six directions instead of four.  In other words, players may move any number of spaces per turn, but only along a straight line.
  3. Each player can move any number of spaces in a single direction per turn.  Each player can also move any pieces in the environment in any or all directions, so long as the total movement that the player causes is no more than four spaces (e.g. a player could move a black cube one space up and one space northwest, a red pyramid 1 space southeast, and a purple cube one space south).
  4. No pieces other than the players need to move in straight lines.
  5. Purple cubes are collected by landing on the spaces they occupy.
  6. Landing on the same space as a black cube is prohibited.
  7. If a player occupies the same space as a red pyramid (by moving the player to the pyramid or the pyramid to the player), that player is sent back to his starting space.
  8. Whenever a player moves onto a space occupied by an orange pyramid or vice versa, the player involved loses a purple cube.  The player who lost the cube must replace it on the board no less than 5 spaces away from both players such that it cannot be reached via a linear move.  If the player in question has no purple cubes, he is sent back to his starting space.
  9. Purple cubes cannot be placed on a player's starting space.
  10. The pieces may start in any configuration on the board, so long as both players agree on the configuration.  Not all of the black cubes or pyramids need to be used.
  11. A player may move his character and the other pieces in any order before ending his turn.
  12. The player who goes first is determined at random.
  13. Pyramids can't be moved more than 2 spaces per turn.
  14. No swearing!
